This painting was commissioned by The University of Georgia in 2020 to hang in Kirby Smart’s new office. Since it went up on the wall, we have won back-to-back National Championships.

So yeah…I’m proud of this one!

Georgia vs. Auburn in Piedmont Park, 1892
mixed media on panel
18 x 24 inches

limited edition print available in three sizes

Pretty cool that the first Georgia-Auburn game was played in Piedmont Park in 1892, not far from my house as I type. A lot has changed since then. The train tacks are now The Beltline, which is a pretty big deal for what is really just a fancy sidewalk without a street. One major change in the game of football is that this once heated rivalry has become quite lopsided, with Georgia winning nine of the last ten including six in a row. Sometimes change should be embraced!

No. 19 - Scott Woerner

Scott Woerner
mixed media on panel
36 x 48 inches

limited edition print available in three sizes

This painting was made by commission and presented to Scott Woerner at The College Football Hall of Fame in honor of his induction in 2016. If you’re too young to know about him, just know he is one of the greatest players to ever wear the red and black.

Much of the credit for our 1980 National Championship goes to Herschel, and Buck Belue to Lindsay Scott, but without Scott Woerner’s heroics, we would have lost to Clemson early in the season. He returned a punt 63 yards for our first touchdown. Then he made an interception in the end zone and returned it just shy of the goal line, setting up our second touchdown. We held on to win 20-16. And I remember all of it like it was yesterday, listening to Larry Munson on the radio in my grandmother’s house in Jacksonville.

Bulldog Tee Marker
Univ. of Georgia Golf Course
mixed media on canvas
22 x 30 inches

limited edition print available in three sizes

This is not a painting of your typical concrete Uga that you see on porches and doorsteps all over the state. This is a tee marker from The Univ. of Georgia Golf Course, where the top players go if they want to experience the best in both golf and all-around college experience, and to give it their best shot at advancing to the PGA Tour. Why would you go anywhere else?

Georgia Theatre

If The Arch is THE landmark of The University of Georgia, then the Georgia Theatre is THE landmark of downtown Athens. When I arrived as a freshman, it was known as The Draft House, where you went to see second run movies for $1, and that became my Sunday night ritual.

A couple years later, it was transformed into a music venue, quickly becoming one of Athens’ iconic places to see live music along with the 40 Watt Club and Uptown Lounge.

No. 22 - Vintage Arch

Vintage Arch
mixed media on canvas
40 x 48 inches

limited edition print available in three sizes

There is no question that The Arch is THE iconic landmark of The University of Georgia, perfectly located to mark the transition from campus to downtown. There are a lot of things I love about this one, but what stands out to me is the old Varsity at the near corner where a Chic-Fil-A now stands. The nostalgic quality of this image really hits home considering that even the “new” Varsity is now gone.

As a reminder, Peach State Pride’s new Empire South store is opening soon on College Ave. You’ll find Plaid Columns paintings, prints and t-shirts available for sale, and I will be there before kickoff for most home games. I hope to see you there!
