Scott Woerner
mixed media on panel
36 x 48 inches
This painting was made by commission and presented to Scott Woerner at The College Football Hall of Fame in honor of his induction in 2016. If you’re too young to know about him, just know he is one of the greatest players to ever wear the red and black.
Much of the credit for our 1980 National Championship goes to Herschel, and Buck Belue to Lindsay Scott, but without Scott Woerner’s heroics, we would have lost to Clemson early in the season. He returned a punt 63 yards for our first touchdown. Then he made an interception in the end zone and returned it just shy of the goal line, setting up our second touchdown. We held on to win 20-16. And I remember all of it like it was yesterday, listening to Larry Munson on the radio in my grandmother’s house in Jacksonville.
